A sobering ride down TX 39 through the flood ravaged Guadalupe River corridor. Prayers and support for comfort, recovery and healing for all involved.
Overall, a good day on the bike including the last hour or so in a "cycling" rainstorm.
Welcome to my journey! This year, I’m trading the view from my window for the view over my handlebars as I embark on an adventure I’ve dreamed of for years. None of this would be possible without the incredible support of my family, especially my amazing wife, Susan (Susu), who will be cheering me on every mile.

Day Two of the pre-ride brought a nice change, with Del Rio halfway, a bit bigger place and even a Starbucks stop for coffee...which I miss getting coffee during the day in more remote areas.
Some really good vistas from US 90 of Amistad Reservoir as it empties into the Rio Grande, along with a liquor store owned by my Uncle Randy!

Hit the road early for the 1st ride of the CTC, Sanderson to Comstock...all US90...hilly and hot were the words of the day. This road runs along the US Mexico Boarder...felt safely watched all day with tons of Border Patrol and even a National Guard station...
Beautiful sunrise and scenery all day...88 miles in the books!
Check out the pics and Strava Flyover link for the route traveled today. Tomorrow on to Brackettville, TX via Del Rio and more!
The folks here in Sanderson have been friendly, gracious and helpful as I visited Fergusons, Z Bar Trading Company and of course, here at the hotel. Here are some additional photos taken this afternoon in my tour and grabbing a pizza and pasta salad.
Planes, Trains and Automobiles - not in that order as I left Louisville, KY for the pre-ride which starts in Sanderson, TX...out west...not quite to El Paso but getting there!
From Louisville, Southwest Airlines to San Antonio with an Uber over to the Amtrak Station, next to the Alamodome. There I boarded the Amtrak Texas Eagle for a 6-hour ride out to Sanderson. The upgrade to a small sleeper room was worth it and included a sunrise breakfast in the Dining Car.
I arrived in Sanderson, about 9:00 in the morning and began work reassembling the bike, which had been shipped out to the Desert Air Motel. People here have been very friendly and accommodating on my logistics, including holding the bike for me in advance of my arrival.
After dinner at a local cafe' I am going to get ready for the 1st day of riding tomorrow...90 miles via US 90 along the Rio Grande, to Comstock, Tx. Packing plenty of food and water as there aren't many options between here and there!
